My Universe

This part of my website tells you a bit about myself and the things that matter to me.

Hmmm—where do I start?

Well, to begin with, I was born in Calcutta, India a little over thirty years ago. Dad was working in Indian Airlines (now retired) and mum was a schoolteacher. I also have a younger brother who’s a pilot.

The first three years of my life were spent in Bombay (now Mumbai), after which we moved to Tezpur in Assam for about a couple of years. I did my early schooling at St. Joseph’s Convent in Tezpur, Then, when I was about five years old, dad got transferred back to Calcutta, and we’ve been there ever since.

I continued my schooling in Calcutta at St. Mary’s Orphanage & Day School (SMO) which is one of the many schools run worldwide by the Congregation of Christian Brothers (CCB). (There’s a brilliant piece on my school written by my friend Sanjay Podder which you can read here if you are interested). After completing my secondary schooling at SMO,  I finished my higher  secondary education from the West Bengal board, and then was off to Nagpur for four years, where I graduated in Computer Engineering from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering. After coming back to Calcutta, I did my Masters in Business Administration from Jadavpur University’s Institute of Business Management, where I majored in Marketing.  After completing my post-graduation, I started working, and that’s what I’ve been doing since. I want to become an entrepreneur in the future, but only after I’ve worked for a few  more years.

Now that I’ve bored you enough with all the gory details of my education, let me tell you about the things that excite me—and there are many!

I am by nature a very curious person, so quizzing is one of the activities that I really love to spend my spare time on. I also relish a stimulating debate or discussion on any subject with anyone. It’s the best way to clear the cobwebs from one’s mind, and speaking for myself, I have learnt a lot from my interaction with erudite people from different fields. They have broadened my horizons, and pointed out things that I had never thought of or imagined. I have been fortunate, in that I have come across many brilliant and knowledgeable people in my life, such as Dr. Raghuram Ekambaram and Daipayan, among others.

When I’m not chatting with my friends or indulging in quizzing, I spend my time in activities such as reading (mostly pulp fiction), writing (some of my stuff has been published in newspapers), music (all kinds), movies (all kinds), eating out, travelling, going on long drives, playing football and cricket, netsurfing, and last but not least - sleeping!!!

That’s all from me and about me for now. I hope I haven’t bored you to death! If you’re still alive, then you might like to go to the Gallery section after this.
